Because an instructor of over 20 years, I have had my share of co-teaching model experiences. Many of them were very good experiences. Some of them were difficult situations. However, I still imagine a true co-teaching approach is effective for both the special education pupil and the regular education student. Principal Chad Smith
Co-teaching is a procedure for teaching students with two certified instructors. One teacher is a special education instructor and the other instructor is a regular education tutor. Both teachers are portion the needs of ALMOST ALL students in the class.
Research indicates that co-teaching benefits both the students and the instructor. Equally teachers have strengths and have weaknesses. Hopefully, the area one teacher has a weakness; the other teacher has strength.
In one of my co-teaching experiences, I taught with a special education educator who was excellent in math. Math is not my strongest subject to teach. Therefore, he paid for my weakness in the deep knowledge of the coaching of math. My power was in reading understanding. We planned together and created activities for both subject areas, but My spouse and i became the supportive co-teacher in math and having been the lead co-teacher. The roles were corrected once we taught reading.
Co-teaching is not something to be taken without any consideration. The two instructors have to be willing to participate and schedule planned times to plan upcoming lessons and assessments.
Teaching is not the sole thing the co-teachers show. They share the grading, the discipline and, most importantly, they share the students. There is never a line drawn between kids and MY kids. They are of THE kids.
All co-teaching strategies are effective if set up in the right way, and both teachers should fully understand what is expected of which. There are many co-teaching, models:
? one teach, one observe= one teacher has the main role of teaching while the other teacher observes students
? one teach, one assist= one teacher is the primary teacher, the other teacher mainly helps in teaching the lessons. It is best when you have a paraprofessional or non-certified staff in their classroom with the authorized educator
? station teaching= the teachers teach by using a train station model. The students are divided into groups and rotate between both these styles the teachers for instruction at different channels
? parallel teaching= each instructor teach half the students. Both teachers teach all students. The special education teacher will not only instruct special education students and the regular education educator the regular students. All of the students are mixed up in line with the student’s needs and the teachers teach all students
? supplemental teaching= one teacher works with the students who have perfected the content and the other teacher works with the students needed more support in mastering this article
? alternative teaching= both professors teach the content, however, one teacher teaches one way of learning the content, and the other teacher teaches the principle in different ways. This works best in math classes where one teacher teaches one method to solve a math problem and the other teacher teaches a different sort of method of solving the math problem.
? team teaching= both teachers teach the lesson jointly, where the students can not delineate which teacher is the lead
The methods of co-teaching are something that is not hard to put into action. Both parties have to keep the scholars in mind in everything they certainly for the class. Equally teachers have to be respectful of the other person and of the students. In the event that this is clarified, co-teaching will be a wonderful experience.
